Map Navigation Tips
- Use Beacons — Place beacons at important locations (base, resources, danger zones)
- Watch your depth — Deeper biomes require better oxygen tanks and depth modules
- Follow the lights — Bioluminescent organisms often mark paths between areas
- Listen for Leviathans — Audio cues warn you before visual contact
- The Void is death — Don't swim past the map edges (Shiver Leviathans patrol there)
Subnautica 2 Map FAQ
How big is the Subnautica 2 map?
The Crater System is comparable in size to the original Subnautica's map, with 8 distinct biomes spanning from shallow reefs to deep trenches. The exact dimensions haven't been officially measured yet.
Is the Subnautica 2 map procedurally generated?
No. Like the original, Subnautica 2 has a hand-crafted world. Every biome, cave, and wreck is in a fixed location. Resource nodes may have some randomization but the overall layout is consistent across all players.
What happens at the edge of the map?
The Shiver Leviathan (Void Leviathan) patrols the edges of the map in the open ocean void. Swimming too far from the crater will result in a lethal encounter with these invulnerable pack hunters.
